Have you found yourself having a mild decrease in memory? Perhaps your reaction times are a bit slower, or it’s difficult to keep multiple streams of thought working at the same time. These symptoms may have many causes including excessive multitasking, hormone imbalances, sleep disturbances, or nutritional deficiencies. There is another possible cause related to dietary behavior – fish fog.

Fish fog is caused by elevated levels of mercury most usually coming from fish. People who have more than a single serving of fish in a week (particularly swordfish, albacore tuna, mahi mahi, sushi, and other deep sea fish) may be at higher risk for fish fog.

Is Our Food Making Us Ill?

Our relationship with food has changed immensely. Although the availability of foods and produce from around the globe has increased substantially, this expanded food delivery system may not be helping us to eat healthier. We are most often separated from food production. Many families no longer enjoy home-cooked meals, opting instead for processed “frankenfoods” resulting in poor digestion. Overall, our food is less nutritious than nature intended.

Since the birth of the interstate system, suburbia, and the nation’s fascination with automobiles, more and more people have traded a rural or small town life for the joys of large urban/suburban cities. Where people used to grow their own food in fields and gardens, they now grow lawns. Food production has become more and more of a mega-industry driven by the desire for ever-greater profits. We are no longer connected to the land, the seasons, or the process of growth and renewal.

The Golden 10: Have These On-Hand for Cold and Flu Season

We usually have many medicines in our medicine cabinet. This year during cold and flu season, it may be better to have a “Health and Healing Cabinet” on hand.

The goal this year – and every winter season – is to enhance health and ward off symptoms. We must plan that most of us will be exposed to the H1N1 virus (swine flu). Our goal is to enhance immunity so that there will be few to no symptoms even if there is exposure.
